Potential to grow with the company and widen expertise and knowledge base in canine social dynamics, AKC title certification preparation, dog agility training and dog training for our human clients through our private and group classes and workshops.

k9HS - Dog Trainer Apprentice

This is a part-time to full-time position. Hours can vary week to week depending on demand. Located in Long Beach, training takes place outdoors. 

This is a part-time to full-time position working closely with our head trainer managing our Dog Training School Programs. Our head trainer holds multiple Professional Dog Trainer certifications and accreditations and is a certified mentor trainer for multiple dog training certification schools where he educates and mentors aspiring dog trainers. Most importantly, our head trainer has over a decade experience in dog training and has a wealth of experience to mentor the right candidate for this position. This is a very dynamic and physical job, but very rewarding for someone that enjoys the outdoors but also has a mind for science and dog behavior. The right candidate must be genuinely interested in learning, but must already posses strong computer and organizational skills, as well as the capacity to manage multiple projects at once. Candidates in the process of obtaining or looking to obtain a Professional Dog Trainer Certification are ideal matches for this position. 

  • Safe driver who's able to drive dogs from and to school in school truck

Duties

Work with other trainers trainer in all daily activities including, but not limited to:

  • Pick up and/or drop off school clients and communicate with parents

  • Assist in teaching dogs basic, intermediate and advanced skills 

  • Assist in teaching dogs American Kennel Club Certification curriculum 

  • Assist in supervising puppy play time

  • Assist in working with team to complete following tasks: 

    • Set up and break down of all training equipment

    • Inventory of uniforms and equipment

    • Roll-call for students

    • Ensure collars and leashes are properly fitted

    • On-leash walking

    • Teach on-leash walking

    • Safely socialize the dogs

    • Teach dogs basic, intermediate and advanced skills 

    • Teach dogs American Kennel Club Certification curriculum 

    • Supervise puppy play time

    • Take pictures and post on social media

    • Social Media messaging and management

    • Daily video editing and posting to clients

    • Daily update to clients broadcast

    • Student report card and graduation coordination​

    • Assist managing report cards and communication

  • Safely lift dogs in and out of School Bus

  • Sanitize, vacuum and wipe down School Bus

  • Perform daily School Bus inventory of equipment

  • Replenish water for school session

  • Fill up School Bus tank with gas

  • Take School Bus for maintenance, repairs and oil change

  • Assist teaching classes and assist clients to teach them skills taught in school

  • Assist teaching classes and assist with group dog training classes and workshops

  • Assist with clients 1-on-1 in private sessions

  • Assist managing weekly curriculum and destinations for school program

  • Making phone calls, emails and text messages on head trainer's behalf

  • Manage ongoing projects for head trainer

  • Create task list and manage list items to completion

  • Coordinate with administrators and trainers to complete tasks

  • Coordinate with accountant, bookkeeper, payroll and other service providers

  • Communicating with other administrators, bookkeeper and accountant

  • Assisting head trainer in completing projects and resolving administrative tasks

  • Assist in management of newsletter, advertisements and social media

  • Assisting clients and potential clients through the admission process

  • Become an expert at navigating the booking system at Canine High School

  • Teach clients to navigate website and booking system 

  • Explaining services and price plans to clients

  • May be required to transport dogs in personal vehicle

k9HS Teacher Trainer

This is a part-time to full-time position. Hours can vary week to week depending on demand. Located in Long Beach, training takes place outdoors or at client's home.

  • Professional Dog Trainer Certification completion CCPDT or equivalent

  • Prior hands-on experience working with / handling dogs

  • Experience handling dogs safely and maintaining dogs below emotional threshold

  • Experience with reactivity, anxiety and impulse control

  • LIMA capable (Least intrusive minimally aversive)

  • Knowledge of canine behavior and force-free dog training methods

  • Knowledge of behavioral learning theory

  • Ability to teach assistants and clients with respect, honesty and mindfulness

  • Scheduling & administering admissions interviews

  • Invoicing and processing refunds and credits

  • Maintaining client database

  • Ensuring all client passes and pricing plans are active and not suspended or terminated while receiving services

  • Ensuring Service Agreements are sent, returned and signed prior to services being rendered

  • Ensuring that trainer’s and daycare worker’s calendars are correct and up to date
